The Joy of Doing
"Difficulties in life arise because what I want will always clash sooner or later with what you want. Pain and suffering inevitably follow. In watching Mother Teresa it is obvious that where no I want exists there is joy; the joy of doing what needs to be done with no thought of I want."I found this book on the bookshelf in my sleeping quarters on the day I arrived at Sesshin. This quote just struck me so profoundly and helped me be of more service to others throughout the weekend.
~ Charlotte Joko Beck in Everyday Zen: Love and Work. From the talk called "Thy Will Be Done" under the section of the book called Service
